The Southwood Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by North Miami on the road and fell 68-25. Southwood was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-20.
Despite the loss, Southwood saw an underclassman step up: Hali Pershing scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Emmerson Chellis, who scored three points along with three steals.
Southwood struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as North Miami pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for Kaiden Hanley, who scored 39 points along with nine steals and five rebounds for North Miami. The game was Hanley's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Laney Musall was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with four steals.
Southwood bumped their record down to 2-9 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.8 points per game. As for North Miami, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Southwood and Wabash will round out the year against one another at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at. Hopefully Wabash focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Friday. As for North Miami, they will square off against Peru at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Peru focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday.
