The Eldorado Firehawks will take on the Del Sol Dragons at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eldorado hasn't scored more than two runs for five games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
Eldorado took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Bonanza, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Firehawks never let the Bengals get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Firehawks as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, Del Sol played in-conference for the first time last Saturday and got just the result they were looking for. They put the hurt on Desert Pines with a sharp 18-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Erik Gonzalez and Joseph Luna made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gonzalez struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Luna tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Del Sol is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-10 otherwise. At the plate, Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Luna got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Luna has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Issac Vollink was incredible, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Edwin Jimenez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Del Sol was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Desert Pines only posted a batting average of .250.
Eldorado's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Del Sol, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 8-11.
Eldorado took their win against Del Sol in their previous meeting on April 5th by a conclusive 16-3 score. Do the Firehawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
