The Leigh Longhorns fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Branham Bruins on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Bruins 64-60. Leigh's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why Leigh lost, one person who can't be blamed is Caleb Asante. Despite the final result, he shot 5-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. Asante hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Cooper Smith, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Leigh's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Branham, they pushed their record up to 17-1 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road.
Leigh will challenge Santa Teresa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Teresa knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 18 games -- so hopefully Leigh likes a good challenge. As for Branham, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Evergreen Valley at 7:00 p.m. Evergreen Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 534th, while Branham is ranked 86th).
