The Overhills Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
After a string of five wins, Overhills' good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 56-34 loss at the hands of Pine Forest. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (32), Overhills still had to take the loss.
Overhills might have lost, but man, Joel Lalin was a machine: he rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also picked up 104 receiving yards and a touchdown. Lalin was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 55 yards. Jermaine Banks was in the mix too, providing Overhills with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Gibbons had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They walked away with a 33-23 victory over Leesville Road.
Cardinal Gibbons' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Gannon Jones, who threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns, and Aiden Smalls, who picked up 105 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Chet Yardley, who picked up 98 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Pine Forest's victory bumped their season record to 6-4 while Overhills' loss dropped theirs to 5-5.
