The Newark Memorial Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Livermore Cowboys at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Newark Memorial is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Hayward get on the board and left with a 29-0 win on Tuesday. With that victory, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 9 runs per game.
Caitlyn Rose made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Andrea Tall and Addyson Waterhouse did most of the damage at the plate: Tall went 5-for-6 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs, while Waterhouse went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those six RBI gave Waterhouse a new career-high. Cadence Benner also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
Newark Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, everything went Livermore's way against Patterson on Friday as Livermore made off with a 12-1 win.
Kaci Norton tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gianna Willes, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Payten Williams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Newark Memorial pushed their record up to 3-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Livermore, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Newark Memorial's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. Newark Memorial has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Livermore, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Newark Memorial continue to outrun the ball?
Newark Memorial couldn't quite get it done against Livermore in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as they fell 10-7. Can Newark Memorial avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
