Hanover Central is 2-8 against Munster since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Wildcats will host the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Hanover Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.9 runs per game this season.
Hanover Central couldn't beat Lowell on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Wildcats fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 5-4. The game marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Hanover Central got a good showing from Elle Mowry, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, Sienna Antkiewicz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Oostman, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Munster faced Leo in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Mustangs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lions, sneaking past 5-4. The victory was nothing new for the Mustangs as they're now sitting on four straight.
Kaylee O'Connell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
O'Connell wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maddy Marlowe, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits Marlowe has posted since back in March.
Munster pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for Hanover Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.
Munster's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hanover Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465.
