The Phillips Loggers will head out to face off against the Gilman Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Phillips is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Phillips came out on top against Mellen on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fourth inning. The Loggers put the hurt on the Grainte Diggers with a sharp 12-1 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Loggers needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Annaka Tobias made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Trinity Smith and Raelee Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Williams went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Delaney Fore was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Phillips always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.
Flambeau hit Gilman with a four-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pirates came up short against the Falcons, falling 12-2. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Pirates couldn't push the score so high this time.
Phillips' record now sits at 14-9. As for Gilman, they dropped their record down to 9-12 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Phillips suffered a grim 13-6 defeat to Gilman when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Loggers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
