The Mount Calvary Christian Chargers will square off against the High Point Baptist Academy Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Mount Calvary Christian sitting on three straight wins and High Point Baptist Academy on five.
Mount Calvary Christian is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Coventry Christian a 16-0 shutout on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Logan Stewart was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Mount Calvary Christian got a massive performance out of Ben Gerlach, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most runs Gerlach has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Owen Weisser, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Mount Calvary Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, High Point Baptist Academy made easy work of Coventry Christian on Monday and carried off a 15-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.
High Point Baptist Academy let Landon Richard and Bradon Howe run wild. Richard went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Howe went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. High Point Baptist Academy is undefeated when Richard posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Blaise Perrone was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
High Point Baptist Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mount Calvary Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mount Calvary Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. However, it's not like High Point Baptist Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .538. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mount Calvary Christian was able to grind out a solid win over High Point Baptist Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 5-2. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
