Franklin is 1-9 against Socorro since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Franklin came up short against Eastwood on Wednesday, falling 26-15. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Maria Lopez led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-6 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Lucero, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Socorro entered their tilt with Eastlake on Wednesday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Falcons.
Haley Rodriguez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Victoria Perez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Danielle Lozoya was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Socorro pushed their record up to 25-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Franklin, their loss dropped their record down to 8-18-1.
Franklin might still be hurting after the 13-0 defeat they got from Socorro in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
