It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Chilton Christian Academy Patriots ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They managed a 58-54 win over Central Christian. Given Chilton Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Central Christian is ranked 231st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chilton Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Milly Avery led the charge by dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. The game was Avery's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Chelsea Oliver was another key contributor, scoring three points along with 14 rebounds and three steals.
Central Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hayes Turner, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. Turner is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ayden Lippincott, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Even though they lost, Central Christian were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chilton Christian Academy only posted five assists.
Chilton Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Central Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.
Chilton Christian Academy will head out on the road to face off against Brooklane Baptist at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brooklane Baptist comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Central Christian and West Florida Baptist Academy will face off at 5:30 p.m. on December 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully West Florida Baptist Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
