Softball Recap: Rancho Christian Takes a Loss

Rancho Christian extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-6 in the process. They came up short against the Rancho Verde Mustangs, falling 21-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on April 3rd.

As for Rancho Verde, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games.

For Rancho Verde's part, Isabelle Sena and Gabby Silvas were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Sena pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Silvas didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. At the plate, Sena went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Silvas went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Sena has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Rancho Verde got a massive performance out of Jaylen Anderson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Leilani Rivas, who went 2-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, Rancho Christian will face off against Lakeside at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Rancho Verde, they will take on Moreno Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Mustangs have won nine straight at home dating back to last season, while the Vikings won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
