The Chesnee Eagles pushed their score all the way to 65 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 73-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Landrum. While losing is never fun, Chesnee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Cardinals are ranked 43rd).
Chesnee's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaylob Blanton, who scored 13 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Wease, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Franklin Davis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Landrum, scoring 24 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was AJ Lindsey, who scored 17 points.
Chesnee dropped their record down to 12-11 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Landrum, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chesnee will take on the Blazers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greer Middle College has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 792 points over their last 11 contests. As for Landrum, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Blacksburg is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season.
