The Coral Park Rams's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 42-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of American. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Coral Park in their matchups with American: they've now lost three in a row.
Coral Park's loss came despite strong showings from Ivana Montoya and Gianella Carmenate. Montoya scored six points along with five rebounds and five steals, while Carmenate scored eight points along with 11 rebounds. Carmenate continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Vivas-Acevedo, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Coral Park smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as American only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
American's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Karissa Perrier, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Perrier hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Lajahnique Olive, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Coral Park's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.3 points per game. As for American, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Coral Park will head out on the road to square off against Sunset at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Sunset focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Thursday. As for American, they will be playing at home against North Miami Beach at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams have allowed few points on average, (North Miami Beach: 27.6, American: 27.4) so any points scored will be well earned.
