Bridgeport is 0-4 against the Hawks since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Bridgeport Indians will head out on the road to square off against the University Hawks at 7:30 p.m. Bridgeport will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the Hawks are ranked 18th).
Last Thursday, Bridgeport came up short against the Buccaneers and fell 44-37.
Meanwhile, University had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past Weir 80-43 at home. University has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 26 points or more this season.
University relied on the efforts of Hannah Stemple, who scored 19 points along with five steals, and Ella Simpson, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Stemple hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Alexa Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Bridgeport has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for University, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9.
Bridgeport came up short against the Hawks in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 47-43. Can Bridgeport avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
