Newton County has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Leake Central Gators at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Mississippi (Newton County is ranked 69th, while Leake Central is ranked 47th).
Last Tuesday, Newton County earned a 37-28 win over Northeast Lauderdale.
Meanwhile, Leake Central put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 65-28 victory over Leake County on the road. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Leake Central had established a 29 point advantage.
Newton County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. As for Leake Central, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-6.
Newton County skirted past Leake Central 51-48 in their previous matchup back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newton County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
