It was a good run, but the Wood River Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. Their tough 55-32 defeat to Minden might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Wood River can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Minden is ranked tenth).
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ellie Morgan, who scored seven points along with four steals. Morgan has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Macie Peters, who scored six points along with six assists and two steals.
Minden found their leader in underclassman Myla Emery, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Emery has scored all season. Kinsie Land was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 14 rebounds.
Wood River dropped their record down to 12-9 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Minden, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.
Wood River won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Doniphan-Trumbull at 7:45 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Doniphan-Trumbull focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Tuesday. Minden does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
