Lake Braddock has gone a perfect 5-0 against Mount Vernon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bruins will square off against the Majors at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Lake Braddock blew West Springfield out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday West Springfield got their revenge. The Bruins fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 34-31. The Bruins were up 28-13 in the third quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Lake Braddock might have lost, but man, Tyrone Jackson was a machine: he rushed for 108 yards and one score, and also threw for 221 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Zachary Hibner was another key player, picking up 144 receiving yards and one TD.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Mount Vernon's strategy against Annandale on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Majors blew the Atoms out of the water with a 55-13 final score. The Majors haven't had any issues with the Atoms recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Mount Vernon, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Demontrez Bannister, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Lake Braddock's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2. As for Mount Vernon, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Lake Braddock has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 165 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mount Vernon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 186.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
