The Payson Longhorns lost against the Show Low Cougars back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Payson suffered a tough 46-22 loss at the hands of Show Low. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Payson has scored all season.
Payson lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lizzy White, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds. White is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
Show Low's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Raquel Wilson led the charge by scoring 16 points along with three steals. Wilson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Aubrie Wilson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and six steals.
Payson's loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Show Low, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Payson is on the road again on Friday and play against Snowflake at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Show Low, they will square off against Holbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Holbrook will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Show Low is ranked seventh).
