The Fairmont Golden Tornadoes will be taking part in a tournament against the East Columbus Gators at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Fairmont took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They came out on top against Heide Trask by a score of 8-4.
Nehemiah Chavis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Mynkoda Smith was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kenley Callahan, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, East Columbus waltzed into their game on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Rams.
Gauge Simmons spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. He is becoming a predictor of East Columbus' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 7-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, East Columbus saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landyn Jacobs, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Jacobs has posted since back in March.
East Columbus' victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Fairmont, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
Everything went Fairmont's way against East Columbus when the teams last played back in March of 2022, as Fairmont made off with a 14-3 victory. Do the Golden Tornadoes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gators turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
