Philip Barbour is 0-7 against Petersburg since March of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Colts will head out to square off against the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Philip Barbour is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Philip Barbour took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Lincoln, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Colts sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-12 victory over the Cougars on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Colts have posted since April 27, 2024.
Avery McDaniel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed eight innings while giving up five earned (and seven unearned) runs off 11 hits. McDaniel was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Wilmoth, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Payton Holbert was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Petersburg made sure to put some runs up on the board against East Hardy on Friday. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Cougars. Considering the Vikings have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Olivia Kimble tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk).
At the plate, Ella Chew was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Miley Tingler, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Petersburg hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Hardy struck out six times.
Philip Barbour's record now sits at 8-10-1. As for Petersburg, their record is now 11-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Philip Barbour hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Petersburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Philip Barbour couldn't quite finish off Petersburg when the teams last played two weeks ago and fell 10-8. Can the Colts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
