Basketball Recap: Silver Creek Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Henry Pendergrass and Connor Bonsett

Silver Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost an 83-78 heartbreaker at the hands of the Monarch Coyotes. While losing is never fun, the Raptors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Coyotes are ranked 42nd).

Despite the loss, Silver Creek had strong showings from Connor Bonsett, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 20 points and seven rebounds, and Henry Pendergrass, who went 6-for-9 on his way to 16 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Those 16 points gave Pendergrass a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Buckingham, who went 5-for-7 en route to 13 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Silver Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Logan Laverty, who went 10-for-15 on his way to 28 points and five steals for Monarch. Thanks to that strong game, Laverty now owns an excellent 45.7% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Dylan Ehrnstrom, who went 7-for-12 to rack up 17 points.

Silver Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Monarch, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season.

Silver Creek will challenge Skyline at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Skyline is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season. As for Monarch, they will take on Centaurus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Monarch has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 216 points over their last three games.
