After a string of four wins, the Hawkinsville Red Devils's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 70-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Telfair County. The contest was a 22-22 toss-up at halftime, but Hawkinsville was outscored by Telfair County in the second.
Hawkinsville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nelson Singletary, who scored 17 points along with six steals and five assists. Singletary has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Darius Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 19 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Hawkinsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Rodriquez Clay, who scored 23 points for Telfair County. Clay hasn't dropped below 15points for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Christon ?Tuga? Zanders, who scored 14 points.
Hawkinsville's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Telfair County, their victory bumped their record up to 4-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hawkinsville will take on Treutlen at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Treutlen's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Telfair County, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Bleckley County at 7:30 p.m. Bleckley County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Telfair County in Georgia (Bleckley County is ranked 135th, while Telfair County is ranked 463rd).
