Newberry Academy will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Curtis Baptist Crusaders at 2:00 p.m. on December 21st. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two weeks ago, Newberry Academy didn't have too much trouble with Whitmire on the road as they won 33-16. The victory was just what Newberry Academy needed coming off of a 43-10 defeat in their prior matchup.
Curtis Baptist has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 23 points or more this season. They took their contest on the road on Thursday with ease, bagging a 55-21 win over Holly Hill Academy. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Curtis Baptist considering their zero-point performance the game before.
Curtis Baptist found their leader in underclassman Maci Butler, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Bella Ramp, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Newberry Academy's win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3. As for Curtis Baptist, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3-1.
Newberry Academy took a serious blow against Curtis Baptist in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 42-6. Thankfully for Newberry Academy, Angel Tilton (who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
