High school softball rankings: Four MaxPreps Top 25 teams still playing after big state title weekend

The Lions capped a perfect 41-0 season defeating nationally ranked Georgetown 7-0 to take home the school's first Texas 5A state championship. Florida commit Ava Brown showed why she's not only one the top juniors but also one of the top players in the nation holding Georgetown to one hit in the complete-game shutout.

Fifth-ranked O'Connor (Helotes, Texas) trailed Lake Ridge 6-5 heading to the bottom of the seventh in the Texas 6A state title game. That's when Jada Munoz hit a game-tying homer to lead off the inning and then a walk-off base on balls finished off an epic comeback win for the Panthers.

Sophomore pitcher Carter Wachtel led No. 12 Triway (Wooster, Ohio) to its first state title striking out 10 in a 2-1 win over Johnathan Alder. The Class of 2024 ace struck out 17 in the title game last season but they came up just short of a championship.

Also in Ohio, No. 22 Lakota West (West Chester, Ohio) won its first state title. James Madison University signee K.K. Mathis hit a two-run bomb and was solid in the circle to lead the Firebirds to a 9-2 Division I win over Holland Springfield.

Fifteenth-ranked Rockridge (Taylor Ridge, Ill.) overcame a 4-0 deficit to repeat as Class 2A champions on Saturday. Keaton Frere's RBI double in the 11-inning would be the difference as the 35-0 Rockets' 6-5 win made them the first team in Illinois history to post successive undefeated seasons.

North Carolina commit Kenna Raye Dark was brilliant in the circle in both games of the NCHSAA 3A Softball State Championship Series against North Buncombe as Eastern Alamance (Mebane, N.C.) won 1-0 and 3-2 to capture the state title.
