Chaparral had lost seven games straight , but after bumping their record up to 12-11 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Santa Teresa Desert Warriors 13-7. The result was nothing new for the Lobos, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Michael Molina and Israel Nieto made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Molina struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Nieto tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Chaparral is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-11 otherwise. At bat, Molina got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Nieto went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Molina has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Carlos Torres was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Munoz, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Chaparral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
As for Santa Teresa, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 16-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat they have suffered since March 8, 2024.
On Santa Teresa's side, Jose Romo was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Romo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
Romo wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Garcia, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Coming up, Chaparral will venture away from home to take on Silver at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lobos are facing the Fighting Colts at the right time seeing as the Fighting Colts are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Santa Teresa, they will challenge Deming at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Desert Warriors will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least ten runs in their last seven contests.
