Baseball Recap: Lord Botetourt Wins Going Away Against Fleming

Lord Botetourt got themselves on the board against Fleming on Tuesday, but Fleming never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Colonels with a sharp 15-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cavaliers considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Brady Kish was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Lord Botetourt: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Garrett Lonker looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jairdan Pennix, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Austin Wyrick also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Lord Botetourt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Lord Botetourt pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Fleming, they are on a 15-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Lord Botetourt will head out to challenge Salem at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Fleming, they will venture away from home to square off against Franklin County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
