The McDowell Titans will head out on the road to face off against the North Buncombe Black Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. McDowell is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
McDowell put the finishing touches on their 14th blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. They blew past Erwin 63-28 on the road. Given McDowell's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Warriors are ranked 218th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McDowell's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sage Young, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Young has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kensly Stewart, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, North Buncombe beat the Rams 33-28 on Tuesday.
North Buncombe relied on the efforts of Kadence Penley, who scored 11 points, and Aubrey Gilliland, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
McDowell's record is now 15-3. North Buncombe's record now sits at 12-5.
Everything came up roses for McDowell against the Black Hawks in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 61-29 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for McDowell since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
