The Clearfield Falcons are taking a road trip to challenge the Bountiful RedHawks at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Clearfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Clearfield came out on top against Bonneville on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Falcons walked away with a 12-9 victory over the Lakers. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Falcons considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Jenna Lloyd made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Lilly Lara was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Lyla Leonhardt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Clearfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Bountiful came tearing into Wednesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Lancers get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. The RedHawks' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.
Not much got past Dylan Carpenter, who gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Layton off the board.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Claire Yates, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Bountiful pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Clearfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Clearfield's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Falcons have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Bountiful, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Clearfield continue to outrun the ball?
Clearfield came up short against Bountiful when the teams last played back in March, falling 5-2. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
