The Covenant Christian Cougars's game on Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 59-45 win over Midland Classical Academy. Given Covenant Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 178th, while Midland Classical Academy is ranked 1157th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
AJ Guerra was his usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Matthew Boughton, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Covenant Christian's win bumped their record up to 22-7. As for Midland Classical Academy, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-24.
Covenant Christian will be playing at home against Pantego Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jamerson Green and Boughton. Midland Classical Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
