Basketball Recap: Trevor Garlington Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat KIPP Legacy

Blue Valley Northwest won the last time they faced KIPP Legacy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Blue Valley Northwest Huskies walked away with a 61-53 victory over KIPP Legacy. Given the Huskies' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 12th in Kansas, while KIPP Legacy are ranked 119th in Missouri), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Blue Valley Northwest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trevor Garlington led the charge by going 5 for 8 on his way to 13 points along with six boards and five assists. Garlington has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Keaton Humphrey, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds.

Blue Valley Northwest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Blue Valley Northwest's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for KIPP Legacy, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Blue Valley Northwest will face off against Bishop Miege at 7:00 p.m. on February 11th. As for KIPP Legacy, they will challenge Barstow at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
