Gilbert has gone a perfect 6-0 against Williams Field recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Gilbert is taking a road trip to square off against Williams Field at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Gilbert will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Mesa on Monday. Gilbert was the clear victor by a 17-1 margin over Mesa. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Jackrabbits recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Tyler Gordanier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Arianna Leon was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2024. Hayley Joiner also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Gilbert always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Williams Field not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 26th. They blew past Dobson 17-1. The win was some much needed relief for the Black Hawks as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Like Gilbert, Williams Field also got a great game from a two-way player: Emma Childress. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and 15 unearned) runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Childress has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Williams Field got a massive performance out of Jyllian Skoda, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Lauren Petranek was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Gilbert's record now sits at 5-8. As for Williams Field, their record now sits at 7-8-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gilbert hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. However, it's not like Williams Field struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gilbert took their victory against Williams Field in their previous meeting back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 10-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gilbert since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
