After two games on the road, Marcellus is heading back home. They will take on the Phoenix Firebirds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Phoenix took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Marcellus, who comes in off a win.
Even though Bishop Kearney scored an imposing 62 points on Monday, Marcellus still came out on top. Marcellus took their matchup against Bishop Kearney 71-62. Given Marcellus' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Bishop Kearney is ranked 316th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marcellus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tucker Burnett led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Burnett, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Phoenix's good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. They had to suffer through a rough 79-52 loss at the hands of Bishop Ludden.
Marcellus' win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 22.38 points. As for Phoenix, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Marcellus strolled past Phoenix in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a score of 69-51. Will Marcellus repeat their success, or does Phoenix have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
