Softball Recap: Escondido Charter Drops Season-High Score on Francis Parker

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Escondido Charter). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Francis Parker Lancers a 16-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Lancers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Adriana Martino was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Zaliyah Jones was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Olivia Smith also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Escondido Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Escondido Charter pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Francis Parker, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Escondido Charter will welcome Santa Fe Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Escondido Charter 2.5, Santa Fe Christian 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Francis Parker, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Montgomery at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
