Basketball Recap: Desert Christian Piles Up the Points Against St. Augustine Catholic

Desert Christian entered their tilt with St. Augustine Catholic on Monday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the St. Augustine Catholic Wolves 64-37. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Tyson Dobbins was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 34 points and ten rebounds. His evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Payne, who posted eight points and eight boards.

Desert Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 16 consecutive games.

St. Augustine Catholic lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Carlos Acuna, who put up 11 points and five rebounds. Omar Valdez was another key player, putting up nine points.

Desert Christian is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 25-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for St. Augustine Catholic, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-16.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert Christian will take on Benson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Desert Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they will square off against Tombstone at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
