Sierra is 0-10 against Woodland Park since March of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Stallions will take on the Panthers at 3:00 p.m. Sierra has given up an average of 12.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sierra is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They came up short against Gateway, falling 16-6.
Romeo Diaz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Woodland Park waltzed into their game on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over the Thunderhawks. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Nathan Vieux was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Vieux was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. He also put up two doubles, which were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Gabe Marquez was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Cody Fries, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Woodland Park pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sierra, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sierra has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Woodland Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Sierra might still be hurting after the 19-0 loss they got from Woodland Park in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Stallions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
