Two dominant forwards in Grant Overman and Drew Willis are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Willow Spring Storm will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Fuquay - Varina Bengals at 8:00 p.m. Hopefully Willow Spring focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
Willow Spring scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They came out on top against Corinth Holders by a score of 68-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Willow Spring can attribute much of their success to Overman, who dropped a triple-double on ten points, 17 rebounds, and 11 blocks, and Brandon Solomon, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Overman has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last 12 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Xavion Terrell, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Fuquay - Varina's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 76-35 loss at the hands of Clayton. While losing is never fun, Fuquay - Varina can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 418th, while Clayton is ranked 45th).
Willow Spring's victory bumped their record up to 4-11. As for Fuquay - Varina, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
Willow Spring came up short against Fuquay - Varina when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 38-34. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Fuquay - Varina's Abdou Diop, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Now that Willow Spring knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
