Baseball Game Preview: Chaparral Wolverines vs. Eaglecrest Raptors

The Chaparral Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Eaglecrest Raptors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Chaparral is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

Chaparral's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Brighton with a sharp 9-0 victory. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Josh Sutrina, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Cal Tiner also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Chaparral was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Eaglecrest). They came out on top against Vista PEAK Prep by a score of 13-10 on Saturday. With that win, the Raptors brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Logan Franks tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched.

At the plate, Cosme Vera was incredible, scoring a run while going 6-for-6. Blake Anderson was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run.

Eaglecrest's record is now 3-5. As for Chaparral, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chaparral has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Eaglecrest struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
