The Somers Tuskers will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Niskayuna Silver Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on November 24th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Somers rose to the challenge on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 31-7 margin over the Warriors. Given Somers' advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Averill Park is ranked 63rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Somers got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mason Kelly out in front who rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Mac Sullivan, who threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Somers' defense and their four sacks. Ryan Cole was especially locked on to Averill Park's QB and sacked him three times.
Meanwhile, Niskayuna came tearing into Friday's match with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 49-14 victory over Cornwall Central. With Niskayuna ahead 35-7 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Somers' victory lifted them to 11-1 while Averill Park's loss dropped them down to 8-4.
Everything came up roses for Somers against Niskayuna in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 35-7 win. Does Somers have another victory up their sleeve, or will Niskayuna turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
