Basketball Recap: Ryan Baxley's Big Game Can't Quite Lead North Broward Prep over Western

North Broward Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-43 heartbreaker at the hands of the Western Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 20th).

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ryan Baxley, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 16 points. That's the most points Baxley has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Cano, who posted ten points.

North Broward Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Western, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3.

North Broward Prep will host Lake Worth Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Worth Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matches -- so hopefully North Broward Prep likes a good challenge. As for Western, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Western Wildcats face off against the Dillard Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Dillard has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
