Basketball Recap: Salem Comes Up Short

Salem was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 36th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 59-34 to the Resurrection Catholic Eagles. The Wildcats were probably out for revenge after losing 60-41 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Salem still got an impressive performance from Dylan Thornton, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 12 points. Thornton is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ty Bridges, who posted ten points and four steals.

Resurrection Catholic found their leader in sophomore Simeon Ballard, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Ballard also set a new season-high mark in steals with four. Jacob Wood was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

Salem's loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Resurrection Catholic, they pushed their record up to 5-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Salem will host Enterprise at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Enterprise knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Salem likes a good challenge. As for Resurrection Catholic, they will be playing at home against Sacred Heart at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Resurrection Catholic has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
