Long is 7-2 against Slocomb since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Rebels will venture away from home to take on the Red Tops at 4:30 p.m. Long's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Slocomb's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Monday, Long got the win against Luverne by a conclusive 13-4. The Rebels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 contests by six runs or more this season.
Anna Claire Free made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. Providence Christian hit Slocomb with a four-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red Tops fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 9-8. Red Tops fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Eagles since on Thursday.
Molly Mcgowan was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Knowles, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for Long and bumps their season record up to 28-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Slocomb, they dropped their record down to 11-16-1 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.
Slocomb's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Long has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .485. It's a different story for Slocomb, though, as they've only averaged .338. Will they be able to contain Long's hitters?
Long beat Slocomb 11-6 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
