The Clairemont Chieftains are taking a road trip to square off against the West Hills Wolf Pack at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Clairemont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Clairemont saw some tournament action on Friday. They fell just short of Otay Ranch by a score of 2-1. The Chieftains have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Clairemont got a good showing from Jack Pawlack, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Brendan Weiss made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for West Hills, as they earned their first away win of the season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Morse an 11-0 shutout on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Wolf Pack in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.
The result came thanks to Anthony Rosolino's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, West Hills got a massive performance out of Carson-Kai Lewis, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Lewis is becoming a predictor of West Hills' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Joey Monetti was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
West Hills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Having lost for the first time this season, Clairemont fell to 3-1. As for West Hills, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-4.
Clairemont couldn't quite finish off West Hills in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 and fell 8-6. Can Clairemont avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
