The Rio Lindo Adventist Spartans suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Pacific Union College Prep by a score of 42-39. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Rio Lindo Adventist of the 41-37 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Despite the loss, Rio Lindo Adventist had strong showings from Jhordany Barcenas, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds, and Hunter McNunn, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and two steals. McNunn has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Campbell, who scored three points along with six rebounds and six steals.
Rio Lindo Adventist has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Pacific Union College Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rio Lindo Adventist will take on North Bay Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. North Bay Christian Academy comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Pacific Union College Prep on the road again on Monday and play against Elsie Allen at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd.
