Basketball Recap: Cannon Skates Past NC GBB Academy with Ease

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Cannon on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the NC GBB Academy Eagles out of the water with an 83-37 final score. With the Cougars ahead 47-21 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Leading Cannon to victory were Sean Nix and DJ Rogers. Nix shot 50% from the field en route to 24 points in addition to eight steals and five assists, while Rogers went 11-for-15 to rack up 22 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Rogers' big performance that evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. Another player making a difference was Braylen Weaks, who shot 60% from the field on his way to 13 points.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Cannon was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Cannon has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.5 points over those games. As for NC GBB Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 3-2.

Coming up, Cannon will challenge Calvary Day School at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Cannon will be up against Calvary Day School's rather soft defense (which has allowed 73 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for NC GBB Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Mount Zion Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
