Veterans Memorial is 1-0 against Pieper since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Veterans Memorial Patriots will be playing at home against the Pieper Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, everything came up roses for Veterans Memorial on the road against Bastrop as the team secured a 55-8 win.
Meanwhile, Pieper had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They really took it to Cedar Creek for the full four quarters, racking up a 46-10 win at home. Given Pieper's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while Cedar Creek is ranked 974th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jake South continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 380 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also punching in two rushing scores. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Doss, who picked up 115 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Veterans Memorial's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 5-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-6 MacArthur and 2-5 Lockhart (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 35.1% over those games). Pieper has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first seven matchups, giving them a 6-1 record.
Veterans Memorial strolled past Pieper in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a score of 42-28. Will Veterans Memorial repeat their success, or does Pieper have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
