The Tarboro Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tarboro will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 477th, while SouthWest Edgecombe is ranked 124th).
Tarboro suffered their biggest defeat since November 30, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Washington County, falling 75-42. Tarboro was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-9.
Meanwhile, SouthWest Edgecombe entered their tilt with Washington with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. SouthWest Edgecombe simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Washington 65-33 on the road. SouthWest Edgecombe has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 21 points or more this season.
SouthWest Edgecombe's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaliyah Whitehead, who scored 24 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Whitehead has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kd Collins, who scored 14 points along with nine assists and four steals.
Tarboro's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.
Tarboro took a serious blow against SouthWest Edgecombe when the teams last played on Saturday, falling 67-13. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Tarboro was down 47-6.
