1A Region 1 recap October 1, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Caleb Kitchens and Tray Woody connected against Coffeeville. The connection went for 76 yards, the longest such play in 1A Region 1 this season.
The Pirates were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. Coffeeville defeated Biggersville 64-6 earlier in the week.
Falkner's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jase Stroupe threw for 149 yards and Woody had 71 yards receiving. On the ground Stroupe chipped in 148 yards.
The Eagles' dynamic duo of Stroupe and Woody proved to be unstoppable against Houlka, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Richard Green was a key player and the best on defense this week as Falkner topped the Wildcats. The 5-foot-7 junior nabbed 3 interceptions.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Lions' Kitchens and Darian Barnett have proven to be a lethal combination. Kitchens has thrown for 1,126 yards this season, while Barnett, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 23 catches for 489 yards. Jerarnie Lawrence from Cory Armstrong's team leads the league in rushing with 682 yards.
A big matchup in 1A Region 1 this week will be when Thrasher takes on the Eagles. The Rebels are currently in second, while Falkner is in fourth.
Jamaal Jackson's team took down Biggersville 64-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
