The Shadle Park Highlanders will take on the Mead Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
On Tuesday, Shadle Park needed a bit of extra time to put away Lewis & Clark. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Tigers. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Highlanders as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Mason Allison tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Shadle Park is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-2 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tyler Yarger, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Tommy Krotzer was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Mead was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 10-1 to Ridgeline.
Ethan Patsfield was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits.
Mead's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Shadle Park, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-3.
Shadle Park's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Highlanders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Mead, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Shadle Park continue to outrun the ball?
Shadle Park came up short against Mead when the teams last played back in April of 2019, falling 8-3. Can the Highlanders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
