The Mingo Central Miners's game last Wednesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 55-43 win over Belfry. Given Mingo Central's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 89th in West Virginia, while the Pirates are ranked 233rd in Kentucky), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Loss or not, Belfry got some senior leadership from Makaden Maynard and Eric Daniels. Maynard scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, while Daniels. scored eight points along with ten rebounds. Caden Woolum was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Even though they lost, Belfry smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 15 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Mingo Central's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Belfry, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.
Mingo Central will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Belfry, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
