Marina is 2-7 against Seaside since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Marina Mariners will be playing in front of their home fans against the Seaside Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Marina has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 515 points over their last eight matchups.
Marina posted their closest victory yet this season on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past North Monterey County 62-60. Given Marina's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 399th, while North Monterey County is ranked 935th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marina's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Julius Robinson led the charge by scoring 26 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Robinson has scored at least a third of Marina's points. Jordan Bonnard Webb was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Meanwhile, Seaside earned a 65-54 win over Stevenson on Wednesday. The victory was just what Seaside needed coming off of a 69-47 defeat in their prior contest.
Marina's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Seaside, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-12.
Everything came up roses for Marina against Seaside in their previous meeting on January 4th as the squad secured a 75-47 win. Will Marina repeat their success, or does Seaside have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
